Checking In (Monday 21 October 2024)

Hey, how have you been? Good I hope, because it has not been super fun over here since my last post. We've been experiencing back to back extended "loadshedding" power cuts for a few weeks now, that's why I have not posted anything since the WWE 2K16 Universe Mode episodes. Usually it's either you get the power cuts that happen from morning to some time in the afternoon or the power cuts that happen from the afternoon to some time at night, but with these extended cuts it's been from around 6am to around 9pm almost daily. Today was a day for the morning power cut, which was a bit of a surprise because when power goes in the morning you just expect it to be yet another long day of no power. What sucks also is that there isn't a proper schedule that people can follow so they can plan around these power cuts (in the past there would be scheduled published in the newspapers). I'll try to do that, so please be patient with me. At least as far as my internet troubles go that has been sorted, it's not a double whammy of running gag-style internet problems plus power cuts like before.

Attack on Internet Archive

For those of you who might not know, the Internet Archive suffered a DDoS attack a week or so ago and for the most part the site has been down. I would suggest you check Media Monarchy or The Corbett Report or even the latest episode of New World Next Week to bring you up to speed on this. It is terrible, I like the Internet Archive and appreciate that the place has served as a free online library for people to use as a resource. I've been uploading the audio files of my content series plus my walkthroughs there for a few years now and every so often if I've some support money to spare I give that to the Internet Archive because they've had a lot of trouble for a while. Hopefully the site will be back up and running properly soon, but in the meantime I am thinking of uploading my content to my Patreon and maybe even to a SubStack once I've set that up. I know, I know, just like with podcasts and NFTs if they are still a thing, everyone and their grandmother has a SubStack these days, but I think you can understand why I should've set one up ages ago. I just hadn't expected such an attack to happen to the Internet Archive. The content is backed up offline fortunately so if Internet Archive can't come back as it was before the attack, I'll be able to re-upload elsewhere.

Speaking of Patreon, I've noticed that there are a number of people who have joined mine as Free Members and yet I have not heard from a single one of them. There are a total of 17 patrons right now but only one is an actual supporter (there were 2 paying supporters but one cancelled their subscription earlier this month). I have reached out to these Free Members to encourage them to consider becoming paying supporters but no responses have come through and that bothers me. I don't understand why you would sign up as a Free Member on Patreon when you could support via PayPal or via crypto (these addresses are on my Support post). If you are one of these Free Members please consider becoming a paying supporter, that is much more helpful than just being a Free Member who doesn't do or say anything. If it's a case of you can't afford to be a paying supporter, no problem, contact me and at least let me know.

Thanks for reading, all the best for this coming week and keep an eye on the blog for updates.
